The big dog... err... cat... if our house

Let me start by telling you that the Big Dog position of our house is held by a 5-pound cat.

Yes, believe it or not... she is the Queen and truly has the "power".

My mom is out of town, so I am home from work, on a "mini vacation". We have our little 5-lb "old lady" who is truly large (not physically in any way!) and in charge! When my mom (aka Grandma) is home, that cat has her wrapped around her furry little paws and know which buttons to push. She can "demand" to eat at 3am... and my mom feeds her. Yes, absurd, but honest truth. Talk about spoiled! She gets up on my mom's dresser and starts banging things against the large mirror in the back, or... she gets on the desk and starts pushing things onto the floor. She is a little minion, but she is cute... yeah... right... but probably not so much at 3am!

Okay, anyway, the story is... when my mom is home, the two of them spend the day laying on the couch, watching tv, napping, and then the "old lady" feels the need to eat every few hours, but she still keeps her girlish figure... She believes she should have food at 3am, then she hits me up at 5am (so we have to keep an "honesty pad" on the counter so I know if she has eaten or not because she tends to bend the truth). Her and my mom eat lunch and then she gets dinner at 4pm, along with a snack at 9pm. (And yes, she still remains a 5-lb cat!)

Mom left yesterday and I fed all the cats dinner. I went to bed last night and the old lady was curled in her rocker, snoring like a little freight train (yes, she suffers from sinus issues and experiences allergies, causing hee to snore and whistle!). She stayed there all night, never moved, never got up. This morning, she was still curled up at 7am. I went to the kitchen with the other cats and got their dishes. She didn't come out for breakfast... I literally had to wake her up and carry her out to the kitchen for breakfast... okay... lazy... and spoiled.

She doesn't prowl for food at odd hours when I am home with her... because when Grandma is gone... I (yes ME) am the big dog in the house... but once Grandma gets back... I relinquish that "big dog" title back to my little old lady...

Go figure...

Speaking of blankets with sleeves and cats...

To understand, you would need to check the comments under my Slanket post...

Anywhooooooo...

Did you know that cats (at least mine) DOES NOT like to be put in a snuggie? She just thinks it's wrong... I find it humorous... she, on the other hand... DID NOT!

*** no animals were (physically) harmed (yet, maybe mentally-scarred) in the test run of putting a 10-year old cat in a pink snuggie.

Cats...

The holidays are not my favorite. My mind doesn't stop spinning. I get caught in a hurricane of emotions, of questions, of "what ifs".

I don't know why it happens, but I'm sure it has something to do with the "down" time over this time. No work, no school, time to think, wonder, and (literally) drive myself crazy with thoughts.

This pic is my Kitty.  I call her my "old lady". She's 10, about 6-lbs, and can make a 75-lb retreiver kneal.

She is laying here with me, snoozing. But occasionally snuggles up and gives me kisses.

Animals are great. They give unconditional love. They listen,. They snuggle. They care. They are true, real, genuine.

Cats know when you need to relax

I have had a rough day. I've been stressed. I've been watching my phone, watching foe a message. I don't know how to sit still or relax.

Except tonight. I laid down on the bed, TV on, phone in hand. Enter my cat... stage right. He crawls up under my arm and lays across my chest, tucked into my neck, under my chin. Kinda like a 36" nose to tail furry mink still, that purrs. I sure can't see the TV through him... nor can I operate my phone with him laying here. So I am at his mercy. He the tilts his head upward, against my face, staring at me upside down, and purring. Awwwww.

Okay, guess I will relax... but only for a little bit.

Cats!!!!!

Ok, laying here watching TV.

I hear a strange noise... no clue... not familiar... but very strange... I turn around and see our old lady (she's almost 11), sitting on her fleece blanket, with her long legs stretched, as she was chewing on her toe nails. CHEWING ON HER TOE NAILS?!?!?!

WHATS UP WITH THAT?

But them again, she is the "dainty" 5# horse that tears through the house, draws blood from her brothers, thinks she needs to eat every three hours, and suffers with allergies along side me.

Anyway... chewing her nails? Not sure if it's actually chewing or just cleaning...

One of our kittens chew on his. Literally, he lays there and chews them off... in my bed... you can hear the crunching.

Okay, so what is up with cats????

"If your pet could talk, what would you want to know?"

WHY?????
All I want to know is WHY??????

Why... do you feel you need to eat breakfast at 4 o'clock in the morning?

Why... do you need to drink out of the bathroom sink, when you have a water dish?

Why... do you assume that if anything is laying still, it belongs to you?

Why... are all empty boxes considered yours?

Why... do you insist on teasing the fish?

Why... do you think that you are obligated to get some of any can of tuna that is opened?

Why... do you feel you need to sleep in the middle of the king size bed, under the pillows?

Why... do you need to be in the bathroom when someone is in there?

All I want to know is... WHY???????

If your pet could talk, what would you want to know?

Well, it depends on the pet… in our house we have fish and cats. I guess that’s a toss up – one sleeps all day curled up in a ball and the other swim endlessly in circles. Now there are opposite ends of the spectrum.

We have three cats… one sleeps constantly and could care less, unless it’s time to eat (and with her, it’s ALWAYS time to eat)… One walks around the house and bitches constantly. If only I knew what his issue was. Why does he always complain? What is the problem? Why can’t he use his “inside” voice? Or does he just talk to hear himself talk? The other one finds that sleeping across my chest, right under my chin, is the best place to sleep, especially with my allergies. He always dislikes me laying on my stomach or on my side. He insists that I lay on my back, otherwise he has nowhere to lay… not like the rest of the king size waterbed is occupied! I don’t understand him, but when he wakes me from a sound sleep by grabbing my shoulder with his claws to pull me over, I really get the picture… and he still has claws… so I roll over!! And then he lays there and stares at me. What’s up with that?

And then there are the fish… don’t they get tired constantly swimming? Do they ever actually blink? How can ours tell time? They, too, know when it’s time to eat. And then there is our pleco, who is approximately 7 inches from nose to tail and he cruises through the tank like a man-eating shark, just gliding. Does he think he is vicious-looking? Or does he just think (and know) that he is “all that” and more? And where did he learn to swim upside down, on his back, eating fish flakes off the top of the water? Sure as hell not from me!

Animals… if only we knew… but then again… maybe it’s better off that we don’t!!
