You know you're a mother when... (mama kat's prompts)

I have found that since I became a mom... over 14 years ago... I don't sleep. Little noises wake me up. My pattern of getting a full-night's rest is totally screwed! I have gained some additional patience, but for the most part, that is off-set by the lack of sleep and the increasing number of family meals. I am very protective of my child and would go to the ends of the earth for him. I guess, when you become a mom, you suddenly realize that you are their protector and no one (NO ONE) is gonna hurt that child... All your instincts starts becoming more in-tune and you know when something isn't right.

  1. I've found since I became a mom, I never have any change in my purse. Now grandson tells me, "Gramma I collect dollar bills".

  3. Awww...sleep- a lovely memory. When they are little you can't sleep for listening for them in the house. When they are teens you can't sleep because they aren't in the house.

  4. I hear ya on the screwed up sleep! I have 3 kids who wake me up with their movements in the night and they all three sleep in their own rooms. That's how sensitive of a sleeper I've become.

  5. Yeah, I knew the Mama Bear craziness had set in when I found myself yelling and swearing at a 13-year-old who wasn't looking where he was going, and almost crashed his bike into my daughter's stroller when she was 4 months old.

I'm still embarrassed by it, but truly it was like I was possessed. I can't even describe the feeling of rage that swept over me. They should say "hell hath no fury like a mother"!

  6. I've heard other mom's say they went from deep sleepers to light sleepers (which is really good!). That never happened to me. I remember falling alseep while breast feeding and waking up with milk everywhere. We even had a helicopter land behind our house and I didn't wake up! I'm glad my husband is a light sleeper! :-)
